The uptime report for November was somewhat alarming. We seemed to have many minor outages throughout the month for very short periods of time.

See all the tiny dips? All of those are outages, although not major, our site experienced several times where we were not available to viewers. Lets take a closer look:

I usually highlight any problem areas with 1 hour + outages on these screenshots, however, there were no days where we had a major outage lasting longer than an hour.
Even after we increased the resolution of our pings to 1 minute, you will see we had at least one minute of outage per day. Very unfortunate. Overall we had at maximum 2 hours and 53 minutes of downtime. The actual downtime was probably much less than this since we had 5 minute resolutions on for the majority of the month.
At minimum our uptime percentage was 99.60% with the likelihood of it being higher very possible.
This reference has important information on how our EasyCGI tests are performed. These results are based on full page load requests to a test 10K file used throughout our network for accurate reporting. All uptime percentages are based on a 1 minute ping resolution which is the highest setting possible.
The testing performed here is funded independantly by the site owner. The equipment and network required to operate these tests costs an incredible amount of money for us to maintain. If we helped you reach your web hosting decision, we would be greatful if you purchased your hosting plan through our links here. Without viewer support, this resource wouldn’t exist. Thank you.

It appears we had one major outage from EasyCGI hosting in October, 2007. Here is the graph:

Take a closer look at the day by day statistics from previous posts:

Keep in mind, we have our testing servers sending requests to this site once every 5 minutes. Therefore, we may have only been down for 30 seconds and we’ll show 5 minutes because that is the length we had set for October. Starting in December, you’ll see 1 minute statistics and a new test environment that we’ll report on later. But for now…
For the month of October, we experienced the following:
October 7th, 10 minutes
October 9th, 15 minutes
October 11th, 10 minutes
October 13th, 10 minutes
October 17th, 2 hours, 10 minutes
October 21st, 5 minutes
October 27th, 5 minutes
October 28th, 5 minutes
October 29th, 5minutes
October 31st, 5 minutes
This is very odd, what is with the outages mostly on odd numbered days from EasyCGI? I’ve never seen this sort of thing before and is very interesting to say the least.
Either way, in the end, the statistics prove EasyCGI is pretty stable overall. Most of the outages were minimum 5 minute durations which could mean we were offline for just seconds on those days.
The only major outage we had was October 17th where we were offline for over 2 hours. Overall, we rate EasyCGI an A- for uptime. If this major outage hadn’t occured, they would have received an A.
